OK, Pennsylvania readers, it is now our turn to weigh in on the Democratic nominating process. I hope tomorrow will put an end to the long primary season with a decisive victory for Obama. The polls are saying that he will keep it close, but from where I stand in the center of PA, there seems to be a chance for a real upset tomorrow.
Note the following:
- When Obama spoke here in State College, he drew 22,000 people to the lawn in front of Old Main. On Sunday evening, Hillary Clinton drew 1,500 to Rec. Hall and one supporter was blaming the need for curtains to cover over empty bleachers on the rain and the effects of a Blue and White weekend, saying that “the festivities meant some of the students were still in bed.” But the event was scheduled for 8pm on Sunday, and my sense is that the students would have been awake by then!
- Due largely to the voter registration efforts of the Obama campaign, Centre County now has more registered Democrats than Republicans. And this is not only a trend in Centre County, but in Philadelphia County as well. This is good news for Obama, and may indicate that a whole group of people are not being picked up by the current polling.
- Toby Harnden of The Daily Telegraph has a list of reasons that Obama might pull off a win in PA, including the notion that many Democrats want this to be over.
- Hillary Clinton’s recent attack ad that deploys fear in the form of Osama bin Laden images and the bombing of Pearl Harbor comes at a time when people are fed up with the immature Republican tactics of the Clinton campaign. I think it will backfire. I am glad to see Obama firing back.
