Chloe at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Just before the new year, we took Chloe and Hannah to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Chloe, who is obsessed with everything that has to do with art, was beside herself with excitement.

Once I told her that artists sometimes bring a sketch book to sketch the works of great art in the museum, she insisted on bringing one.

Below are a few examples of her work in the light of some of the European masters:

Chloe Aliza Long (age 4) Van Gogh, Sunflowers (1888 or 1889)

Above (left), Chloe takes inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh’s famous Sunflowers painted in1888 or 1889.

Léon Frédéric, The Four Seasons (Autumn), 1894 Chloe Aliza Long

Above (right), Chloe depicts Léon Frédéric’s The Four Seasons (Autumn) from 1894.

Chloe Aliza Long Paul Cézanne, Quartier Four, Auvers-sur-Oise (Landscape, Auvers), 1873

Finally, Chloe drew Cézanne’s 1873 Quartier Four, Auvers-sur-Oise (Landscape, Auvers).

  • Thanks sooo much for sharing these!
My daughter is also very interested in art and we have started to use blogging as a place to share some of it as well. Someone also suggested having some other the kids’ work put into a digital scrapbook. It may be nice to have a bound copy of their work to share.

  • Thanks Nikki, for the comment and for following the blog. I think it would be fun to put together a digital scrapbook of the artwork of our kids. I am happy to have a record of these initial encounters with art.

CALong is a artist and I am fortunate to have many of her earliest works. She reminds me of the master artists in that she has her own perspective and reflects this in her narrative responses, as seen in this masterfully done and artistic presentation of by her father. It is a gift each time I see one of those posted video. I know the pure joy of seeing in one’s child the expressions of being. JIF

  • This was really cool! You should take her back there in a year or so(hopefully the obsession of art persists) and ask her to make new sketches. It would be a great idea for a digital scrapbook. Showing her sketches, year by year, next to the original in a digital scrapbook would be such a great memory for the future.
