Community Supported Agriculture

DSC_0814.JPG
Last weekend my family participated in the annual Strawberry festival at the Village Acres Farm, where we are members of their community supported agriculture (CSA) program.
As you can see, the strawberries were beautiful, and my daughter Hannah loved them. We all enjoy the healthy organic food that comes from this beautiful farm.
But what we most enjoy is the sense that we are supporting our local community of farmers, that we are engaged with the environment and community in which we live and that we are afforded an opportunity to experience the cycle of life that brings different food to us at different times of the year.

Chris, I’m glad to see your blog. I agree with you on your thoughts on why it’s important to support CSA, especially raising a family. Have you seen the book “Last Child in the Woods”? It’s about our connection with the environment and how our children are at risk of losing it.

I will try to take a look at “Last Child in the Woods” as I have not read it. I am struck, particularly during these crisp, clear, not-yet-too-hot summer days in State College, by how important our relationship with the environment is and how beautiful nature is in all its guises.

Hey Chris! I found your blog off a link on Lane Jackson’s graduation blog and had to see what you were up to! The kids are gorgeous and getting so big! The last time I saw any pictures Hannah was just born! Anyway, just wanted to say hi and it was nice to see you, Val and the girls in pictures! I still miss ya but Mike Hayse keeps us updated on anything major! 🙂 Keep in touch! Susan
